DUNEDIN NEWS.

[By Telegraph—Press Association.] Dunedin, last night. At a meeting of the City Council, after some vigorous speeches, the following motion was passed with enthusiasm : “ That it is the unanimous opinion of this Council that the Mayor should immediately call a public meeting of citizens and others for the purpose of passing resolutions upholding the action of Mr Chamberlain and the British Government in connection with the South Africa war, and denouncing the diabolical, atrocious, and untrue statements of the German press and all other Pro-Boers on our brave and honored Imperial and colonial troops now fighting at the call of the Empire in South Africa. The Mayor intimated that he would call a meeting next week. During the past year, there were fiftysix adjudications in bankruptcy in Otago and Southland. The liabilities totalled £29,146. The amount realised was £19,945, and there was paid in dividends £7719. The figures for Dunedin were : Adjudications, 16 ; liabilities, £14,081 ; amount realised, £16,410; paid in dividends, £5784. The amount realised was swollen by the Official Liquidator of the Colonial Bank having to hand over the amount realised under the Companies Act of last session.

At Balclutha to-day, Henry Rose was charged with selling liquor without a license at the Show. Beer, said to be manufactured by himself, but containing 5 per cent, proof of spirit, was sold openly on the ground. The Magistrate reserved his decision.

As a result of resolutions passed by the Dunedin Presbytery, the Acting-Editor of the Outlook has resigned.
