EIGHTH CONTINGENT.
By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, last night. Though in the absence of the Premier there is no official confirmation of the report that Colonel Davies declines to take commani of the Eighth Contingent, owing to a difference with the Government as to the conditions attached to the offer, it is generally accepted as true. Instructions have been given for the enlistment of 110 additional recruits to fill up blanks in the Sixth and Seventh Contingents. Wanganui, New Plymouth, Napier, Palmerston North, and Masterton have been asked to supply ten men each, the remainder to be made up from other districts.
