CHRISTCHURCH WOOL SALES. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, last night. The first wool sales of tho season coin- i menced this morning, 431-1 bales being catalogued, mostly small farmers' wool, and mostly in a very dry earthy condition. Owing to tho unfavorable season, tho selection was one of the poorest over offered in Christchurch. Thore was a . large attendance of follmongcts and ropro- | sontativos of tho woollen mills, but no j Home buyers. Most of the lino wool was i taken for local manufacturing purposes, and there was some outside speculation in halfbreds. Prices were quito as good as was expected, but showed a decline of one penny for medium to twopence for superior as compared with the opening sale of last year. During tho forenoon greasy merinos sold at 5-ld to iRI, half-bred SJd to 7d, and crossbred 21J to D.Vd. A later messago states: —The first wool sales of the season were held to-day. Thore was a good attendance of buyers, all the colonial factories being represented. Wool suitablo for factories sold at full rates, and other sorts at a little above tho parity of London values. The range of prices was : Greasy Merino, medium to good, 6d to 7sd; inferior, 4ld to fid ; halfbred, superior, s£d to G-Jd ; medium, 4td to SJ-d; inferior, 3.1 dto 44d ; crossbred, superior, 4d to 41 d ; medium, 3(4 to inferior, 2ld to 3d ; longwool, superior, 3Jd; inferior, 2]d ; pieces and bellies, good, 3d to 3,1 d ; inferior, 2d to 2-Jd; locks, Id to 2d.
