\EW ZEALANDERS ADVISED TO STAND OFF. x GREAT and . terrible rush PREDICTED. | Special to TiAucki lost night. . Mr Gordon Kelly, r. ..all-lcnown New Zealander, writes fron Durban loathe New Zealand Herald, warning New Zealanders against proceeding to South Africa in the hope of bettering their fortune. 1, 1 warn our countrymen, New Zealanders," continues Mr Kelly, “to stand off Africa until the Rand is open and in full swing. Even then they would find that there will be keen competition in every branch of work. A great and terrible rush is sure to take place of all sorts aud conditions of men. A great many will have cause to regret leaving a certainty for a glorious uncertainty. lam an old hand in South Africa since the opening of the Rand. I saw in the good old days a struggle) for existence aud the heartbreaking conditions of the laboring classes. Even then I warned the public through the Australasian not to come without a bank balance, and a fairly good one, aud now I warn | mv own countrymen not to come hero unless they have some means behind them, and above all not to break up a little home. Can I say more ? But- I know they will come in spite of anything I or any other friend could say. I am well enough known everywhere to be considered capable of giving advice on this subject. I love my country and my fellow-countrymen. They are invited to seriously consider before taking on South ’ Africa. Mind, I don’t say that there are no big things on ahead after the war. - Personally I believe that a groat mining t boom will set in—perhaps the greatest on r record—but this will in no way affect , what I said above. A man must have t money on this side of the water, or else a 5 heart as big as an ox, and a courage that nothing can cool.”
