MANSLAUGHTER CASE
DEATH OF MRS TRITT. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Christchurch, last night. The criminal sessions of the Suprome Court were continued to-day. A charge against Carl Tritt of manslaughter of his wife at Kaiapoi on October 25 is proceeding. There are two counts in the indictment —killing his wife on October 25, and assaulting her on October 21, Accused pleaded not guilty to the first and guilty to the second. The medical evidence showed that the woman’s body was covered with bruises, but that death was duo to an internal injury, presumably caused by a crushing blow on the surface of the abdomen. TRITT SENTENCED TO EIGHT YEARS’ IMPRISONMENT. Later.—The evidence for the prosecution was that the woman had been so severely beaten with a heavy harness kicking-strap, that resultant internal injuries had caused her death. The medical testimony bore this out, and two sons of accused saw their father hit their mother with the kicking-strap. Ho asked the lads to say he used only his hands and a light strap. A sentence of one year's imprisonment for assault, and seven years’ imprisonment for manslaughter was imposed, the sentences to be cumulative.
