Colonel Polc-Penton was a passenger to Sydney by the Waikare this afternoon en route to England.
THE WHAKAPAI
The Nautical Inquiry concerning the capsizing of the scow Whakapai between the Last Island anil the mainland was continued to-day. Captain Lambert, who commanded the To Anau, which steamer it was alleged passed the scow when she was in trouble, said that when the Te Anau was passing that particular place at the time of the capsizing of the Whakapai, the third officer (Hazard) was in charge of the deck, and no distress signal was seen by either the officer or any of the crew. The weather was somewhat thick when the Tc Anau was passing East Island, and there was some difficulty in seeing a mile ahead. Tho inquiry was further adjourned till Thursday, when the evidenco of the third officer of the Te Te Anau will he taken.
