FATALITY AT NGAKAROA.
MAORI WOMAN BURNED TO DEATH.
Imoioiation was received by telephone yesterday afternoon by Sergeant Siddells that a Native woman had been burned to death at Ngakaroa on Saturday, and that Constable Fanner was arranging for an inquest to be Held near Karaka. From enquiries made by a Timms reporter last evening, il was ascertained that the woman in questson resided with her husband at Ngakaroa, which is some distance this side of Karaka. The couple were living in a wlmre, no other Natives residing in the vicinity. The man was away from the wharc for a time, and his attention was attracted by hearing cries for help. On reaching the spot from whence the cries came lie saw the woman with her clothes on lire, and although he succeeded in extinguishing the flames by wrapping a blanket round her, the woman died from injuries received. It is presumed that she was sleeping close to the tire, and in this way met with the accident that was the cause of her death.
