MYSTERIOUS DISAPPEARANCE OF £3OO.

Christchurch, last night. At tho inquest touching the death of C. Seholfiold, clerk in tho Public Works Office, who was found drowned in tho Hcathcote river, a note found on deceased body was read. It was addressed to Mr Ussher, District Engineer. It stated that deceased’s accounts were straight on March 31, but over £3OO had disappeared during tho Royal visit. He could not account for this. All he knew was that he did not have tho money. He had lived cleanly and carefully, and denied tho family and himsolf all amusement. He sold his furniture and paid off as much as possible, and now ho paid tho last penalty of over-work and strain. The jury returned a verdict of “ Found Drowned.”
