It was ideal Shamrock weather, there being a 12-knot breezo, with a fairly smooth sea at first but choppy later. Avoiding the efforts of Captain Barr, of the Columbia, to crowd. Captain Sycamore, of the Shamrock, gained the windward berth, and also 94sec start, owing to the Columbia being recalled for crossing the line too soon.

Tho first leg was a close reach, the second a broad reach, and the third a dead beat to windward.

The Columbia proved her superiority in reaching and on the wind. The Shamrock rounded the first mark 72sec ahead, hut on the second leg the Columbia gained 2 Isoe. The Shamrock stood off on the starboard tack, allowing the Columbia the windward berth.

The Columbia exhibited superior pointing, and soon drew ahead, and Captain Sycamore failing to blanket, followed the Columbia's wake, the latter winning by 89sec clear, or 21550 c, including tho time allowance an I difference in the start.
