A MEMORIAL,
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) Christchurch, last night. At a meeting of the Cheviot settlers on Saturday it was resoivod to collect subscriptions towards providing a memorial to the late Sir John McKenzie. AUCTIONS BILL.
The Agricultural and Pastoral Association unanimously passed a resolution in favor of the Land and Live Stock Auctions Bill.
SUICIDE,
A man named Thomas Hobbs Lucas was found dead in bed this morning with his throat cut. There was a razor beside
the bed. Lucas had been hotel manager, but was out of employment for nine months. Ho made an attempt at suicide two years ago, and was hound over. A verdict of suicide while in a state of unsound mind was returned. ARBITRATION COURT.
The painters’ dispute was considered
by the Arbitration Court to-day. The. Union asks for ten shillings a day,"but the employers say they cannot afford to pay it. The award will he given before the members of the Court leave Christchurch. Three cases for tho enforcement of an award, brought by the Christchurch Tailors’ Trade Union against three firms,
arc now occupying tho attention of tho Court. It may finish its sitting here' Dy Wednesday morning.
