Tho Agent-General cables under dato London, tiie 6th : “ Mutton market dull, trade very disappointing, there being only a hand-to-mouth demand. Canterbury mutton to-day is 3.L1, Dunedin and Southland 3Jd, North Island 3d, Australian 21 d, ltivor Plato 2.Jd. River Plate is in largo supply, and is being strongly pushed for sale. The lamb market is weak. Canterbury brands are at fijil, brands other than Canterbury o,',d. The market is over-supplied with heavy carcases. There is a better demand for beef. New Zealand hinds aro at 3;]d, fores 2,}d. Hemp is depressed, the market depending on Manila reports. Good, fair Wellington, on spot is at' £25. Light stocks aro on hand, 267 tons, as against 1012 last year. Cocksfoot seed, 171 b standard, on spot, 39s nominal ; buyers not keen to do business.”
