They were driven off, with tho loss of two killed and seven taken prisoners, all of whom were wounded. The British had one wounded. Dir Rose limes, Attorney-General of tho Transvaal Colony, addressed a meeting at Westminster under tho auspices of tho Imperial South Africa Association. 110 declared that annexation of tho late Republics would alone secure permanent peace. Their independence meant a rival conspiracy.
REMINGTON’S GUIDES HAVE WARM WORK. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, July 8. Reuter's agency reports that a squadron of Remington’s Guides routed Akorman's commando at Brakfontein. Akerman was wounded in the shoulder. Remington noxt attacked Pretorius’ commando, 200 strong, at Kootzcpoort. After twenty minutes’ fighting at close quarters, amongst rocks and bushes, during which several Boers were wounded, and l’rotorius being shot in the eve, the enemy fled.
Five British columns have been engaged for several weeks clearing the banks of the Orange River. They captured 127 Boors, including several leaders ; 92 rifles were taker iso 18,000 sheep, 7000 cattle, and f>Oi k.i horses. They also collected 1200 lefugces.

One of the blockhouses fill into the hands of the enemy, but the others held out. An explosion partly derailed an armoured train coming to the assistance of tho British. The Boers, thinking tho train was wrecked, attempted to rush, it. They encountered, at a distance of ten yards, a terrific case shot fire. Thereupon they withdrew. Two thousand refugees have been brought to Edenburg in a fortnight.

ALLEGATIONS OF SHOOTING OF WOUNDED MEN. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright , London, July 8. Tho Daily Mail publishes a letter signed Edgar Wallace, embodying a sensational narrative of an eye-witness, apparently an officer, of tho battle of Vlakfontein. This eye-witness alleges that lie saw two of Commandant Kemp’s Boers deliberately shooting wounded, four of whom woro killed. The murdered included a sergeant who was slightly wounded, and an officer to whom the sergeant was offering water.

Isy Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, July H. An additional ten Gordon Highlundors were wounded by the wrecking of a train at Naboornspruit. Three of Marquis Tullibardino’s Scottish Horse were killed and nine wounded at Elandshock on the ijrd.
