PREPARATIONS IN CHRISTCHURCH.
ALLAYING PUBLIC UNEASINESS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Christchurch, last night. Some discussion has taken place with regard to tho stability of the platforms erected for tho public in Victoria Square and Hagloy Park. As a result, the City Surveyor has submitted a report, stating that they will be quite safe. His opinion is endorsed by local architects. In order to allay any feeling of fear on the part of the public, the Association of Architects has been invited to tako the matter up, and will meet to-morrow to consider whether they will report on the stands. Arches, masts, festoons, and devices have been erected in different parts of the city, especially on the line of route. All the special arches are in course of construction. They will represent the frozen meat industry, Agricultural and Pastoral Association, shipping, and the Westland province. The Government will have a special arch, typical of New Zealand.
