PURCHASES BY THE GOVERNMENT.

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) Wellington, last night. The Government have purchased further properties in tho South Island for closer settlement and - workmen’s homes, having acquired the Glenham estate, of 11,500 acres, near Wyndham; liakahoo estate, of 2,250 acres, near Pleasant Point, South Canterbury; and several small properties in the vicinity of Christchurch and Belfast. The Government are also acquiring property in tho Waikato as an experimental farm.
