WESTRALIAN DEFICIT PROBABLY £40,000.
“ ECONOMY ” THE KEYNOTE.
By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Perth, June 18. The Premier, Mr Leake, has outlined the Government’s programme. The keynote is economy. There will bo a probable deficit at the end of the year of £40,000. The Government would not undertake any more new railways or other public works. They would have to borrow over three millions to comploto tho works in hand and equip the railways and rolling stock. The promised legislation included rc-distribution of scuts, a reduction in tho number of members, and a Bill for tho trans-Continental railway.
Sydney, June 13. Tho Premier, in the courso of his speech last night, denied any compact with the labor party in connection with the forthcoming elections. The Premier announced that, after providing £114,000, tho cost of
tho Federal celebrations and other extra expenditure, the revenue of tho State would cover the expenditure proper of tho year.
Hobart, Juno 13. Mr Philp, the Queensland Premier, has returned by the Papanui.
