PRESENTATION OF WAR MEDALS,

The presentation of three thousand war medals took place with a most impressive ceremony. There was beautiful weather for the occasion, and the pageant w r as a brilliant one. A parade of the Horse Guards took place. The medals were presented by His Majesty the King, who was accompanied by the Queen and Princess Victoria. The Duke of Cornwall’s children sat adjacent to the window. Lord Roberts was first received, and then Sir A. Milner, Sir Godfrey Lagdin, the head-quarters staff of the foreign attaches, the Natal Staff, the General’s Division, the Household Cavalry, the Guardsmen, many plain clothes and discharged soldiers," and finally tho City Volunteers.

Tho ex-Lord Mayor, the Lord Mayor, sheriffs and Moorish envoys were provided with special seats to view the ceremony.

The presentation of tho medals was a lengthy ceremony, the Sovereign standing for two hours.

The King was in Field-Marshal’s uniform, with the blue ribbon of the Garter. He handed all the medals to the recipients at the rate of 28 per minute.
