By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, last night. The Hon. J. G. Ward arrived from Dunedin by tho express train on Saturday, and after meeting a deputation about the railway arrangements for tho Royal visit, was present for a short time at a smoko concert of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants. Mr Ward delivered an address, in which he announced that during the coming session it was the intention of the Government to bring in an amended Classification Bill, as he was not satisfied with the present classification, which did not go far enough, and he would endeavour to make better provision for the recognition of services than now existed, and tho recognition to which they were entitled. He would also endeavour to provido a superannuation scheme, by which ho hoped to retain the best men in tho service, so that thoy would not be tompted to leave by offers from over the water. At the same function Messrs Collins, Ell, Hanmer, Laurenson and Russell all stated their intention of advocating bringing in all Government employees under the same legislation as private employers. Mr Ward afterwards left for Wellington.
