DRUIDS’ SOCIAL GATHERING
The popularity of tho social gatherings r held under tho auspices of Turanganui Lodge, No. 7, U.A.0.D., was again ovinced last evening, when the first social of the season was held in the Academy of Music, there being about 80 couples present. - The committee, consisting of Bros. H. Miller, H. D. Bean, J. Griffin, P. Geaves, s A. Wade, J. Franklin, D. McKeague, C. c Keane and J. Eaton, worked hard to make the function a success, and their efforts were well rewarded. The M.C.’s (Bros. A. Sawyer and T. Spiers) did all in their power to make everybody spend a thoroughly enjoyable evening, and were . eminently successful. The music was in the capable hands of Mrs Fernandez, who played the various dances in her usual j finished style. The floor, which was prepared by Mr G. H. Henderson, was in firstclass order. The Secretary (Mr H. Burns) carried out his duties in a satisfactory manner. Shortly after 10 o’clock an adjournment was made' to the supper room, where a good supply of eatables from Mr J. Craig’s well-known establishment were done full justice to. During the evening the A.D., Bro. H. Miller, in a few well-chosen words presented Bro. H. D. Bean, P.B-P-, with a handsome P.D.P. collar on behalf of the Lodge for the good services he rendered to the Order during his term of office. Bro. Bean, in a neat speech, thanked the brethren for their handsome ffift, which he said he would prize as a token of the many happy evenings he had spent with them. Bro. J. Fromlin was also presented with a diploma won in the officers race at the Friendly Societies sports. Dancing was continued until 12.30, when 1 all wended then- way homewards, after | having spent a most enjoyable evening. ! A general wish was expressed that the ; Lodge should hold these gatherings more ’’ frequently than at present, and it is prob- ’ able that they will bo held monthly in , future.- To give the country members an ' opportunity of spending an enjoyable :} evening together occasionally, it is the 1 intention of the Committee to hold similar e functions at Patutahi and Ormond ' shortly, tho Lodge having a large number ® of members at both places. [] We’ll sing God bless the Prince of Wales, , Protect him from the storms and gales; And may his health for ever hold . 1 Free from either cough or cold, i' But Princes too, despite restraints, *• Are subject to all chest complaints. For which the remedy, tried and sure, ' Is yf. E, Wows’ Great Pefferhisi CvrEi
