STOCK SALES.

AN IMPROVEMENT IN PRICES,

Thk glorious weather of yesterday had the effect of drawing a large and representative attendance of settlers at the Wac-venga-a-hika stock sale, and there was a marked improvement in the prices of cattle and sheep. All the lots yarded by Messrs Wyllie and Mason and Common, Shelton and Co. wore disposed of, and at the conclusion of the sale the demand was still unsatisfied. An excellent luncheon was provided by Host O’Connell, of tho Waerenga-a-hika Hotol. Messrs Common, Shelton and Co. report: We held our usual sale cf stock at the Waerenga-a-hika Yards yesterday, when there was a large attendance. Owing to the continued fine weather, there wa.s a decided improvement both in the prices and demand. We sold all our entries both of sheep, and cattle, and ssveral buyers were unable to fulfil their requirements. Of cattle, our entries comprised 130 head, mostly from Opotiki, and the following - prices were realised: 21'forward bullocks fetched .£0 ; 30 21-year-old bullocks, .25 ; 17 do., smaller, £4 10s ; eight beef cows, £5 ; good store cows, J£4 to .£4 7s 6d ; 2£-year-old heifers,. i 4 ; weaners, .£2 7s 6d. Sheep : Upwards of 2000 were yarded, and all were disposed of at the following prices : 331 good sound-mouth ewes (empty), 9s 4d ; 355 do., 9s Id ; 100 do., 9s Id ; 310 medium quality, 8s 3d ; 434 lambs, 7s 7d ; inforior ewes, os 4d to 7s 3d ; cull lambs, 7s 6d.
