[By Telegraph—Press Association.] Dunedin, last night. At St. Bathans, Frcdk. Herbert Perry
was committed for trial on two chargos of stealing sheep and stealing fleeces from Ross and Glondining’s run. At the mooting of the Conciliation Board, with reference to the carters’ dispute, the representative of the Carters’ Union stated that the Board’s recommendation did not meet with the approval of
the Union. After discussion, the recommendation was filed, and will become operative as an agreement unless either party take further action. The population of Bruce County is 7,457, against 7,329 in 1896. Included arc the Boroughs of Kaitangata and Milton. The latter has a population of 1,241, against 1,139 at the provious census. Kaitangata has 1,464, against 1,862. At a meeting of tho Royal Recoption Committee it was decided to ask the City Council to guarantee £2OOO towards the expenses. The suburban boroughs will probably bo asked to guarantee a thousand among them in addition. The Mayor intends calling a public meeting to arrango for tho reception of Colonel Robin and the New Zealanders returning from the war by the Tongariro. They aro expooted to reach Dunedin by tho 6th prox. The census returns show the population of tho City of Dunedin as 25,114. The total in 1891 was 22,376.
