CONFUSING CABLEGRAMS.
ILLNESS OF NEW ZEALANDERS AT THE FRONT.
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) Wellington, last night.
The Premier has received a cablegram from the Governor of Capo Colony-, stating that 1337, IV. Stuart, is dangerously ill at Johannesburg. The message was by request repeated, but came a second time without alteration. On the roll of the New Zealand Contingents this number is allotted to E. It. Sheehan.
Another cable message received states that 1334, A. Stack, is dangerously ill, and that 572, IT. Williams, is also ill at Springfontoin. The other day it was reported that 512, Herbert George Williams, was ill. This confusion and mutilation of numbers and names in the advices from the front is causing trouble and annoyance to the authorities here, who are charged with the duty of reporting to parents and next of kin messages as to the welfare and movements of the men on service.
