CONCERT AT WAERENGA-A-HIKA.

There was a largo attendance at the concert at Waercnga-a-hika, on Monday night, and the affair was very successful. Canon Fox presided. The hall was beautifully decorated. The overture was played by the Misses and Master McClure (piano, violin and mandolin), the selection being very pleasingly given. Mr Spurrell then sang “ Old Pots and New Pots,” and for that .humorous number, had to appear again, when he sang “Widow McCarthy.” “ Sunshine and Rain,” was sweetly sung by Miss Stewart and warmly applauded. “The Dustman’s Vengeance,” was recited by Mr Phil Sheridan, who, in response to a warm encore, gave a parody on “ Little Jim.” Miss Heaney was very successful in her singing of “ Juanita,” which evoked much applause. Mr B. Quigley recited “The Fireman’s Wedding,” and then Miss Ingleton sang “ Queen of Angels ” in a way that aroused much enthusiasm. The first part concluded with the laughable farce, “ Gie me back my old clo’es,” the characters being ably taken by Messrs Phil Sheridan, S. East, and E. Parnell, who kept the audience in roars of laughter. The second part was opened by a finely-played musical selection by Misses and Master McClure, and then Miss McClure sang “ Douglas Gordon,” and acquitted herself excellently. Mr Spurrell gave humor to the proceedings by singing “ Riding on top of an omnibus.’.’ For an encore he sang “ Up in the mountains.” Mr Phil Sheridan recited “ Murphy shall not sing to-night.” Miss Stewart gaye another song, and again scored a success. Miss Heaney sang “ Bid me to love.” There was a very comical farce to wind up with—“ Miss Brown’s Holiday.” _ The parts were taken by Messrs Phil Sheridan, S. East, E. Parnell, and Miss Driller, the droll piece being much appreciated. The concert concluded with the singing of the National Anthem. The‘ accompaniments were played by Misses McClure and Rees Jones, and Mr E. Parnell. There was a large attendance at the dance which followed. Mr A. McKenzie officiated as M.C., and the music was supplied by Mrs and Miss McClure, and Mr E. Parnell, and a committee supplied the supper.
