The joint committee of the City Council and citizens, which has in hand preparations for the reception of the Duke and Duchess of York met this morning. The Mayor presided. It was resolved that an address of welcome should he presented to the Royal visitors in the triangle facing the General Post Otlicc. The Committee decided that the city should erect only one arch, an 1 that should be placed across Jorvois Quay, from Queen’s Chambers to the Railway-line, fronting the main gates to the Queen's wharf. Other parts of the province and the citizens at Wellington are expected to erect arches also. The Joint Committee it to meet the Reception Committee at the Harbor Board on Wednesday afternoon next to arrange a joint plan of reception and decoration. The mayors and chairmen of the local bodies outside the city arc also to be invited to take part in the Wednesday conference.
DUNEDIN'S PREPARATIONS. (Bv Telegraph —Press Association.) Dunedin, last night. At a meeting of the committee in connection with ifio visit of the Yorks, a programme was outlined which includes a drive through the main streets (which are to be decorated and festooned), the presentation of an address at the Town Hall, a visit to and the opening of the winter show, also the reception. In the evening the city is to be illuminated. On the following day the Duke will be asked to lay the foundation stone of the Queen's statue and attend the children’s demonstration and floral display and live maritime display in the evening. On the occasion of the" Ophir's departure there is a probability of the business people in cacli block combining to decorate the streots the block. Christchurch, last night. A meeting of citizens, convened by the Acting-Mayor, and at which there was a good attendance, was held to-day, to consider matters in connection with the visit of the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York. Mr Holmes, Government Commissioner, was present, and explained what was proposed to be done elsewhere. A number of committees were appointed to make the necessary arrangements for the suitable reception of the visitors.
