ROWING.

[By “ Stroke.”]

In recognition of the services rendered by Messrs Roes Jones and Archie Kirk to

the Poverty Bay Bowing Club, the members have decided to have them photographed together in rowing costume, and to present each of thorn with half-a-dozon of the photos. It may be mentioned that lleos Jones lias now won the sculling championship three times, and is thus the winner of Mr Bridson’s cup. Archie Kirk won it twice, but as lie has now nothing to show for his successes, the members considered that the course above mentioned would bo tho best means of showing their appreciation of the services rendered by both oarsmen. Tho photos arc to have tho years in which the cup was won by each of the abovo oarsmen printed on them, and when framed should inako a very nice picture. Now that the suggestion to hold a rowing tournament has been practically approved of by tho two local Bowing Clubs, a friendly rivalry lias worked up in the members of tho respective clubs, and wellcontested races arc promised when the tournament is rowed off. The additional crews of tho Poverty Bay Bowing Club will be selected from tho following:— Bowing : R. Kcllett, W. West, Archie Kirk, J. Webb, and A. Pritchard. Swiming Race : C. Taylor, H. Taylor, B. Kcllett, J. Parker, A. Pritchard, F. Fox, Archie Kirk, and S. Roderick. All the local representative crews are now doing good work on the river, and if they make tho samo progress during the next fortnight, as they have made since they were selected, tlioy can be depended upon to give a good account of themselves, Both the Napier and Union Clubs are experiencing some difficulty in getting a senior representative crew- together to visit Gisborne at Easter. They will both be represented by a ten stone and junior crew, but it is to bo hoped they will try and strain a point to keep the senior fixture, which is now one of the oldest inter-district rowing contests in the colony. _____
