HARBOR ELECTIONS.
(To the Editor of the Times).
Sin, —Ratepayers’ letter in yesterday’s Times is highly amusing, but I doubt very much if he will be taken seriously by the more enlightened portion of the community. What we want in our local bodies is new blood, and until that is forthcoming things are likely to drag on in the same old way that they have been dragging for years. We have upon this occasion a chance of getting two new men in Messrs Petter and Harris, and by all means let us have them. Both are well known to the electors ; their interests are identical with the place, and they should bo given a chance. Why should the town be represented by a man who lives outside the Borough, and whoso interests are identical with the country ? “ Ratepayer ” offers a good deal of advice to the electors as to what should bo done in connection with the harbour, but why does he not come forward himself and take a hand in the affairs of the Board ? In this way he would be displaying his patriotism in the real sense which he is not doing by throwing cold water on the candidature of the two best candidates.—l am, etc., Young Ne\y Zealander,
