ST. PATRICK’S SOCIAL.
A SUCCESSFUL GATHERING,
The Theatre Royal was the scene of a bright and attractive gathering last night on the occasion of St. Patrick’s annual social, which passed off most successfully. The interior of the building was gaiiy decorated with flags and bunting, whilst the stage was transformed into a drawingroom. The hall was brilliantly lighted, and when dancing was in full swing presented a bright and pleasing appearance. The committee spared no pains to make the function a success, and it must have been very pleasing to them to hear the many favourable comments passed upon their labors. The burden of the work in connection with the gathering fell upon the energetic secretary, Miss A. McCabe, who was to the fore in making preparations and had a good deal of labour in connection with the many committee meetings it was necessary to hold. Mlks McCabe was, unfortunately, unable to. be present at the social last evening, owing to the death of her mother, whose presence from the gathering was greatly missed, as she had always been a leading spirit in connection with St. Patrick’s annual social. The Committee consisted of the following ladies, and one and all worked with a will to make the evening a successful one:— Mesdames Maynard, Jennings, P. Martin, J. H. Martin, Maher- (2), 11. Martin, Currie, Cl Neenan, Dolling, Heany, Harry, Orr, Finn, Bull, Jackson, Williams, Muldoon, and. Misses Jennings, McQuirk, Walsh, Flynn, Parr, Hooper, O’Connor (2), Buchanan (2). The ladies mentioned are to be specially complimented upon the gscelleat arrangements made in 'connection with the supper, The tables were tastefully laid, the viands were of a most refherche order, and the attendance was first-class;' so everyone was pleased and satisfied, The floor had undergone special preparation for the social, and was in good condition for- dancing. For this pleasing state of affairs, the thanks of the committee are due to Messrs Joe Martin, Gush, G. Maher, Roland, B. Maynard, B. Power, who not only looked after the preparation of the floor, but also undertook the decoration of the hall, which certainly did them credit. Special mention should be made of the services of Messrs M. O’Grady, Mahoney, G. Maher, B. Power, and Dower, who gave their sendees at the doors during the evening. Amongst others who worked hard to ensure the success of the social were Messrs Williams, R. N. Jones, and W. Webb. The latter kindly undertook the duties of Master of Ceremonies during the evening, and proved himself to be the right man in the right place. The music for the occasion was 'supplied by Mrs Fernandez (piano) and Cullen (violin), an appropriate number of selections being played during the evening. The extras were played by Misses Flynn and Buchanan. During the evening the Revs. Fathers Mulvihill, O'Connor and Augustene were present, and took great interest in the proceedings. A programme of twenty dances in addition to the extras, was gone through, and dancing was continued with great spirit until an early hour this morning. Great praise is due to Mrs Maynard, who acted as President, for the manner in which everything went off in connection with the social, and the ladies who kindly gave their assistance, have reason to be proud of the full measure of success which attended their first social in the new century, -
