PERSONAL.
Mr C. Evans, son of Mr J. T. Evans, of Whataupolco, who for some time was on the Union Company’s Gisborne staff, is at present acting as assistant purser on the Wailcare. Mr and Mrs Reynolds, Miss Reynolds, and Mrs 'Donner will be passengers by the Wailcare from Gisborne this morning for Sydney, whore they join a P. and 0. liner for England. A Press Association telegram rrcoived last evening - statos that Mr Robert F. Johnston, son of Mr R. Johnston, of Gisborne, has passed the Junior Civil Service Examination. This is another-success for the District High School. Mr R. N. Jones, Secretary of the Caledonian Society, paid a visit to Napier to bo present at the Highland Society’s gathering there, but as the sports were postponed ho was unable to remain longer, and returns this morning by the Waikare.
The Union Company’s steamer Wailcare, which makes her first visit to this port this morning, is in command of Captain H. J. Richardson, who will be remembered as having been in charge of the Tarawera when she picked up the ship Nelson in Cook’s Strait some years ago.
