RAIDERS DISPERSING. Per Press Association. Telegraph. Copyright London, Jan. 28. Tho raiders were twice repulsed at Oadtslioorn, abandoning a number of horses and waggons. The cold reception they got at Kruman discouraged the Boers, who aro returning to the Transvaal. A number of cattle belonging to Mr Cecil Rhodes were raided noar Kimberley. • Colonel Plumer has dispersed small bands of Boors at Bronkhurst Spruit. Owing to martial law Olive Schreiner’s husband has 'not boon allowed to leave Hanover district. Another batch of undesirables has been oxpolled from Durban.
STEYN ESCAPES. ANOTHER NEW ZEALANDER DEAD. CONCILIATING THE DUTCH. Received Jan. 31, 1.9 p.m. London, Jan. 30. General Bruce Hamilton reached Ventersburg too late to intercept Steyn, who has gone to Wiuburg, Private C. K. Ward, of the Now Zealand Rough Riders, died of enteric fever at Johannesburg. Mr Solomon, who was AttorneyGeneral, has been appointed legal adviser to the Transvaal Administration. Tho appointment is likely to conciliate the Dutch, Sir Alfred Milner has warned the Cape Dutch that they will be allowed no compensation for damage they may sustain unless they assist tho military.
