AN UNFORTUNATE MATE. THE SYNOD. [By Telegraph—Press Association.] Napier, last night. Thompson, the mate who fell overboard from the barque Rio on the voyage to Sydney, was an old resident here, and had taken the trip because the regular mate was ill in the hospital. The General Synod to-night forwarded to the Governor a resolution expressing profound regret at the loss of the' beloved and revered Queen - and sympathy with the Royal Family, and praying that King Edward may have strength to continue the ivisc and beneficent rule of the late Queen.
