AUCKLAND V. WELLINGTON. AN EASY WIN 'FOR WELLINGTON. [By Telegraph—Press Association.] Wellington, last night. In the cricket match Auckland v. Wellington, Stemson was caught at 'square leg and Elliott at the wickets off the first ball. Hay and H. B. Lusk carried.the score to 81, when heavy showers caused adjournment for lunch. When the match was resumed at [noon the ground was heavy and the ball slippery. W. Mills scored very fast, and his total reached 53 before h .s brother was caught for 10 at 71. W. Mills was caught at leg after knocking up 48. When the match] was resumed the weather was showery, and Auckland should have had no difficulty in saving a one innings defeat, but though the brothers Mills put on 53 for the first wioket, the remaining men with the exception of Hay failed miserably, and the total only reached 122, of which W. Mills made 48 by courageous hitting, nine of his strokes reaching the boundary. Hay carried his bat for 20, Marshall 17,1 Mills and Stemson 10 each. Wellington thus won by an innings with 13 runs to spare. Tucker, of Wellington, despite some rough treatment from W. Mills, bowled with great success, securing 7 wickets for 66 runs.
AN IMPORTANT DECISION. London, Jan. 8.
The Marylebone Cricket Club Committee has resolved that captains of cricket teams shall decide the fitness of the ground and the light for play, the umpires to decide when the captains disagree.
