Returning New Zealanders.

EXCHANGING COMPLIMENTS. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Sydney, Jan. 9. Before the departure of the Tutanekai with the New Zealanders the Hon. Mr Seddon said: “All the New Zealanders here during the festivities are loud in their praises of the management and prevalent feeling. Your hospitality has been virtually boundless,’.’ The Herald, commenting in a similar strain, concludes, “ but the success of the Federal celebrations was, after all, mainly due to the entire goodwill with which the people entered into the demonstration.”

ENTHUSIASTIC SEND-OFF FROM SYDNEY. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Sydney, last night. The great popularity of the New Zealanders was exemplified to-day by the grand send-off accorded them. A large orowd of New Zealanders and the general public lined the wharf as the Tutanekai embarked the Federal contingent. Just before the vessel sailed the Hon. Mr Seddon took farewell of the troopers. The Hon. J. Carroll, member for Waiapu, presided at the function which was held in the saloon. Several toasts were honored, and hearty thanks returned to New South Wales for the many kindness shown to the visitors. At 6.30 p.m. the steamer cast off from her moorings, amid the tootling Ox the whistles of the ferry boats and the cheering of the people ashore. As the vessel passed the warships at Farm Cove, the man-of-warsmen clambered into the rigging and warmly cheered the departing troops. After witnessing the departure of the New Zealanders, the Premier of New Zealand' left for Brisbane, where he intends making a short stay.
