EMPIRE DAY PARADE
1500 MARCH IN TOKYO SPECTACULAR CEREMONY (10 a.m.) TOKYO, May 25. Yesterday was Britain’s day in Tokyo. In front of Emperor Hirohito’s Imperial Palace, units of the British Navy, Air Force, Australian, New Zealand and Indian troops staged one of the biggest and most spectacular parades seen in Japan’s capital. Nearly 1500 troops, led by sailors, marched past the colours of the Commonwealth of Nations. The salute y/as taken by Air Marshal E. M. Bladin; Several , thousand people thronged the plaza for the occasion. Those who attended included Lieutenant-General Derevyanko of the Soviet mission and representatives of other Allied nations. The parade was followed by a reception at Empire House, the sub-area headquarters of the British Commonwealth Occupation Force. The remainder of the day’s programme consisted of a garden party given by the British Commonwealth member of the Allied Council . for Japan, Mr. MacMahon Ball, and it was attended by more than 200 persons.
