Traffic Offence
A charge of failing to give way 'to traffic approaching from the right was brought against William Robert Jardine before Mr. E. L. Walton, S.M., in the Gisborne Magistrate’s Court today. Senior-Sergeant H. H. Russell stated that the defendant collided with a cyclist coming out of deLautour road, and the cyclist was injured. Mr. L. T. Burnard, for the defendant, who pleaded guilty, said that the defendant had never been in court before for a breach of the law, and on the occasion in. question his brake cylinders Were worn so that, although -Ihe brakes were effective when applied ordinarily they failed to act to a sudden application. A statement from a motor firm supported the contention.’ The magistrate .refused to dismiss the case under section 92 of the Justices of the Peace Act, but said he> would make the fine half the usual amount, making it 10s, with costs 19s.
