LONG CORTEGE
FUNERAL OF MR. LYSNAR: TRIBUTES FROM PREMIER . . The funeral of the late ,Mr. William Douglas Lysnar, whose death occurred on Monday, was one of the largest seen in Gisborne for some time, and was attended by representatives of local bodies on which he served and by interests with which he was associated and also by large numbers of the public. A service was held at the residence this afternoon, after which the long cortege moved off to the Makaraka cemetery, Canon A. F. Hall officiating at each service. Large numbers of floral tributes were accommodated in a second vehicle. The pall-bearbrs were: Officer-Cadet L. L. C. Field, Messrs. T. Alston Coleman, V. Field, G. Forbes. C. J. Hamilton and F. Martin. Floral tray bearers were Messrs. 11. P. Hamilton; P. Hamilton, and L. Balfour. Among the large number of messages of condolence received was one from the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser, and another from the Hon. W.' Lee Martin, former Minister of Agriculture. 1 “By his death," telegraphed the Prime Minister, • “Gisborne has lost one of its prominent • and esteemed citizens who, for many 1 years, had taken an active part in the development of the district and had rendered worthy service in his capacity as its member in the House of Representatives."
Mr. Lee Martin’s message stated that there was comfort in the knowledge that Mr. Lysnar spent his life in service to his country and fellowmen.
