Addressing the French legion at Clermont Ferrand, Marshal Petain said: “There are many, under the cloak of patriotism, striving for revolt. tVe are encountering many difficulties. Too many Frenchmen look back hankering for the old regime, but the past is dead. My Government, with it's'chief, M. Laval, will pursue the accomplishment of the national revolution.”
