GREENGROCERS FINED
POTATO PRICE EXCEEDED (P.A.) WELLINGTON, this day. Four greengrocers were fined by Mr A. M. Goulding, S.M., to-day £7 10s each, and a fifth £4, on a Pricp Tribunal prosecution for selling potatoes at a greater price than permitted.
Mr. Goulding refused to heed defence submissions of what he termed “more or less technical objections.” Counsel had submitted that the cost of the potatoes had not been proved, nor what area the potatoes were bought by the inspectors, different prices being fixed for different localities.
Addressing the court on the question of penalty, counsel contended that the regulations were unreasonable and confusing.
