GENERAL SERVICE
APPEALS TO BOARD 1 Appeals against general _ service were heard at yesterday’s sitting of the Gisborne Armed Forces Appeal Board, at which Mr. F. R. Ball presided, with him being Messrs. J. L. Benson and A. T. Webber. R. Edwards, plasterer, appealed against overseas service Q n his own behalf. In support, Mr- A. A. Whitehead said the appeal was only because of difficult domestic circumstances fn addition to his own child, his wife, who was in ill health, had to look after three children whose father was missing in the Middle East. The board decided that the reservist should not be available in the meantime. An appeal against the general service of L. V. Compton, carpenter, was lodged by D. Glengarry, Limited The appeal was dismissed, the reservist not to be called before November 30, and to remain in the Home Guard.
One month’s postponement of service was asked for by T. E. White, roadman—The board granted one month’s postponement. The Director of National Service lodged three appeals against the general service of H. A. D. Golding, G. H. Nicholson, clerks, and" A. S. Vine, senior accounts clerk, employees of the Public Trust. Sine die adjournments were, granted in all three cases, the reservists'to remain in the Home Guard.
Camp release of E. A. Tuhoro, farm-hand, was sopght by R. D. Tuhoro, his employer.—The board recommended imrnpdiafe leave for three months, the reservist to be available in an emergency."
