CYCLIST KILLED
WAINUI ROAD ACCIDENT collisioiTwith car NEGLIGENCE CHARGE A cyclist, Miss Isabell Dalgleish Miller, aged 23, was killed in Wainui road last night in a collision with a motor car. The accident occurred near the bridge opposite the Kaiti School, Miss Miller, who was a member of the staff of Wpolworths (N.Z.), Ltd., was cycling to her home in Steel road when the accident occurred. With a friend, Miss Little, Miss Miller had almost reached the bridge at 8.50 p.fn. and was about to cross the bridge when a car came from behind and crashed into her. In her fall. Miss Miller received a very severe fracture of the skull, and death must have been instantaneous. Miss Miller was well known in Gisborne as a hockey player, and for some years she was selected for the Poverty Bay representative team. Her father, Mr. John filler, is at present in hospital. The interment will take place at the Taruheru cemetery on Monday, following a service at her home at 2 p.m. An inquest was opened before the coroner, Mr. E. L. Walton, S.M., today, and after evidence of identification had been heard the inquest was adjourned. In the Magistrate’s Court before Mr Walton to-day, Thomas George Atchison, aged 34. storekeeper at Ngatapa and now a member of the armed forces, was charged with negligent driving causing the death of Miss Miller. He was represented by Mr. K. A. Woodward, who agreed to an application made by Senior-Sergeant H. H. Russell for a remand until September 9. ’
