SAFETY APPEAL

CARE ON HIGHWAYS TRAFFIC IN HOLIDAYS RECORD EXPECTED ADVICE OF MR. SEMPLE (P<*r Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. A special appeal for care on the roads dining the Christmas holidays was issued by the Minister of Transport. the Hon. R. Semple, yesterday. Mr. Semple said that during the next 10 days the traffic was expected to be the heaviest ever recorded in New Zealand. Last Christinas 15 persons were killed and 240 injured on the roads. Unless much greater care was taken this Christmas. the accident toll might be very much greater than ever before.

He was happy to say that New Zealand had the lowest accident rate per 10,000 vehicles of any country in the world, but this did not mean that the position in the Dominion could not be greatly improved. It was up to everyone of us to do everything possible to improve it.
