CHRISTMAS CHEQUES BUTTERFAT PAYMENTS GISBORNE COMPANIES TOTAL OF £2 7,000 The two dairy factories operating from Gisborne have arranged to .pay out approximately £27,000 as their Christmas cheques, this being more than £2OOO greater than the December payments last year. The Kia Ora Co-operative Dairy Company, Limited, posted its cheques to suppliers yesterday, a week earlier than usual. The secretary, Mr. J. H. Sunderland, said to-day that the staff had made a special effort to have the cheques in the mail in time to escape the Christmas week postal rush and also to assist suppliers with their Christmas buying. In all, the Kia Ora company paid out £21,312 ,1s 8d on the 'basis of 14d per lb of butterfat. compared with £19,432 3s 6d last December at the same rate of payment. This reflected the increased production, which was nearly 10 per cent up on the corresponding period last year.

The Okitu Co-operative Dairy Company, Limited, will post its cheques on Saturday, which is also several days earlier than usual. The secretary, Mr. P. H. Hamilton, stated that his company’s cheques would total £5875, an increase from £5450 last December, the rate of payment being the same as last year, namely I4d per lb of butterfat. ' This also represented an increase in supply of nearly 10 per cent.
