TRIBUTES PAID
COAST BANK MANAGER MR. HAWORTH’S MOVE (Special to the Herald.) RUATORIA, this day. Tributes to the excellent service given to the Bank of New South Wales and its customers were paid at a gathering tendered to Mr. D. B. Haworth, who has been manager of the Ruatoria branch for seven years, and has been appointed an auditor for the bank. The function took place in the commercial room of the Manutahi Hotel. Ruatoria. where Mrs. P. G. Burton, assisted by a band of willing helpers, served a delicious afternoon tea, the tables being gaily decorated with sweet peas and. Iceland poppies. Mr. J. H. Taplin, who presided, stated that the large number present indicated the esteem in which Mr. Haworth was held and added, that a large number of residents had expressed regret at not being able to attend.
In presenting Mr. Haworth with a farewell gift, Mr Taplin wished him success, health and happiness in his new sphere and said they were all very sorry to lose one who had taken such an active interest in the Returned Soldiers’ Association and the social life of the district Mr, Taplin then extended a warm welcome to Mr. Haworth’s successor. Mr. A. G. Burrell. Musical honours were accorded Mr. Haworth when he rose to acknowledge the presentation and good wishes of the gathering. The associations had been a pleasure to him. said Mr. Haworth, and he appreciated deeply the feelings that had been expressed. He especially mentioned Mr. and Mrs P. G. Burton’s generous hospitality. Mr. Burrell also thanked the gathering for their warm welcome and said that his earliest impression of Ruatoria was the hospitality of the people.
