PIGEON FLYING

RACE FROM TIMARU DISAPPOINTING RESULTS The Poverty Bay Central Homing Pigeon Society's race from Timaru, an airline distance of 528 miles, proved disappointing, for only one bird timed in in race time. This was T. Crosby’s Little Lady. There were 13 entries, representing five lofts, and the birds were liberated at 4.15 a.m. on Saturday. T. Crosby’s bird clocked in at 3.25 p.m. on Monday. Unfavourable weather over Cook Strait and strong head winds for most of the route accounted for the poor results. Takapau Race The two-clock-two race flown from Takapau, an airline distance of 136 miles, resulted in a win for R. Hall’s pair, Red Knight and Black Moth, with a velocity of 928yds. per minute. T. Crosby’s Miss Peters and Peter Lady came second.

On Saturday the yearling championship will be flown from Whangarei, and a single-up race from Napier at 10-minute intervals.
