VAN DRIVER INJURED

LEVEL CROSSING SMASH HORSE FLOAT SMASHED (For Press Association.) PALMERSTON N„ this day. West street level railway crossing was the scene of yet another collision between a motor and train last evening, and it was a miracle that the driver of the motor vehicle, an empty horse float, escaped with his life. However, he lies in the Palmerston North Hospital with fairly serious chest injuries. The victim was Robert Brown, of Palmerston North, who was proceeding south as the express from Wellington to Auckland was drawing into the railway yards. The horse float was struck amidships by the big K engine with such force that while portion was thrown clear of the line other pieces of it were driven on to the engine to stick there.

Mr. Brown was picked up lying alongside the track.
