WAIROA CARNIVAL

REPRESENTATIVES MEET GARDEN PARTY PLANS (Special to the Herald.) WAIROA, this day During the week-end plans for the combined garden party which is to be held in Coronation Square on December 9 were completed at a meeting of representatives for the various queen committees. Those present were Messrs. W. T. Peet, chairman, W. G. Brownlie. County. E. A. Jones. Citizens. Mesdames A. Maloney, P.W.D.. i. Lindsay, E F. Pickering, and J. McGregor, Maori, and the organiser, Mi J. Woolf.

The ballot for stalls resulted in the citizen's committee obtaining the first section, the P.W.D. the second, the Maoris the third, and the County the foui til.

Subject to the necessary permission being obtained it is the intention oi tlie committee to hold a small procession in Marine ‘ parade at 1.30 p.m. Each candidate will be on a float and the cavalcade will be headed by the Municipal Band. Upon the procession's arrival the garden party will he declared open by the county chairman. Mr. A. T. Carroll. The committee appointed Mr. W. ’I Fee; ground marshal with full powei whilst he and the organiser were appointed an execu ivu sub-c mimic tee.

It was reported that judging from he number ot inquiries the bab> show was attracting wide interest. There appeared to be an idea prevalent that only local badies were eligible to compete, but the chairman made it clear that any baby either European or Maori from anywhere would be welcomed as a competitor The committee had secured the services of Dr. E. B. Jardine as a judge.

The tug-of-war contest should be another popular feature of the pro:ramme. Each of the queen committees is endeavouring to arrange *U least one team, but outride entries are welcome
