FUNDS FOR CHURCH TF. KARAKA FUNCTION j (Herald Correspondent.) Under the auspices of the St. John’s Ladies’ Guild, Tc Karaka, a sale of work and produce was held i.i the Parish Hail, Te Karaka, last | Saturday to raise funds for the re--1 duction of the debt on the parish | car and other purposes. The function was to have been held as a garden party at Mr. R. D. Dymock's homei stead, but owing to the wet weather I this plan, as well as a projected tenj nis tournament, had to be abani doned.

I There were two classes for bowls I of flowers which brought forth some excellent entries, which were judged 1 by Mrs. F. Barker. In the first class j tne winner was Miss J. O. Scot.t, Miss | Juliet Scott being second, and Mrs. iW. L. Fisher third. In the second I class the placings were Miss Juliet ! Scott first, Mrs. C. 11. Norris, and I Miss L. Kuru equal second, and Miss Cashes fourth. Miss Nancy Coates was

'< the steward. During the af.ernoon a most enjoyable entertainment was given by I a party from Gisborne under the leadership of Mrs. Elliott. The items . consisted of songs, tap dances and topical scenes representing various j picturesque foreign countries. Those I taking part were Mrs. Elliott, Mrs. 1 Morrow, and Misses Scott, Simm. Bim- ’ ler and Goldsmith.

The stall-holders were:—Fancy work —Mrs. Appleton. Mrs. O'Connell and Miss Orr; sweets, Mrs. Bonn!face, cakes, Mrs, C. 11. Norris and Mrs. R. Newman; produce, Mrs. A. G. Lucas, Mrs Keane, and Miss Ruru; luncheon, Mrs. F. Bellerby, Misses L. Orr, Castles. Coates and Appleton; afternoon tea, Mrs. W.L. Fisher, Mrs. G. S. Bridge and Mrs. R. D. Dymock; games, the Rev. J. D. Hodgson, Mr. F. Bellerby, Master K. O'Connell. Competitions resulted: Doll. —Bettie Brown. Golliwog, given bv Mrs. Kitney. —Elizabeth Hodgson. Cake, given by* Mrs. Dymock.—Mrs. 11. W. Thompson.
