NO HOLDING BACK
LAMBS FOR EXPORT KILLINGS AT KAITI BUSY PERIOD AHEAD QUALITY ABOVE NORMAL If there was any fear that fat lamb producers would hold their lambs back for the purpose of securing more weight, the experience in the Gisborne district during the past fortnight does not support that prospect. Lambs have been coming forward in large numbers, and the weights for the time of the year have been well up to the average, and perhaps a little better. Producers appear to be sending their lambs in as they are ready, there being no inclination to spoil the quality of the lambs because of a little extra weight. Killings at the Kaiti freezing works have averaged about 2000 lambs a day, and this week approximately 11,000 have been dealt with, the total including a small proportion of sheep. Last week the works put through 10,000, the total for the fortnight reaching more than 20,000. Heavy Bookings Bookings for the next few weeks are heavy, and it appears that the slaughtermen will have to kill increasing numbers of lambs up to. the Christmas period, after which sheep will be coming forward in larger numbers. The stock available for the freezing works, however, may be regulated to some extent by the weather conditions, and if the rain that has fallen to-day continues for any length of time the demand for freezing space may ease somewhat. So far the quality of the lambs received at Kaiti is well up to the average and even better than usual in many instances,-
