EXHIBITION DISPLAY P.B. REPRESENTATION “RECEIVED FULL, SHARE” 'OFFICIAL’S STATEMENT Recent criticism of the representation of Gisborne and its district in the Dominion Court at the Centennial Exhibition, reported in the Herald and reproduced elsewhere, have attracted the notice of officials of the Exhibition Company, on- whose behalf the secretary, Mr. E. M. Bardsley, Wellington, has forwarded the following explanation to the editor of the Herald:—
“Under the heading ‘Costly photograph’ the Wellington Evening Post recently reprinted an article which originally appeared in qour journal.
“In giving such publicity to Poverty Bay representation in the Dominion Court you, no doubt, acted in good faith, but, as the impression thereby created is one which is entirely contrary to fact, we know that you will likewise publicise the following:
Mohaka Viaduct and Gorge
“The Poverty Bay district in the Dominion Court is represented by a large modelled section of country 500 square feet in area. Included in this urea is an aerial view in colour transparency of Gisborne; typical sheep and cattle country with homesteads, sheep and stock; timber mills, and also Waikaremoana, the Mohaka Gorge and viaduct. The whole area extends over 50 lineal feet. “In addition to the cost of this modelling, which incidentally far exceeds the donation received through the Auckland executive, is the proportionate cost of wall and ceiling coverings, lighting, Auckland provincial towers of knowledge and Auckland provincial reception room; this, entirely apart from the cost of space to the Exhibition Company. “Enclosed is a photograph of a 10 ft length of the area in question which bears out what has been said.
“The Dominion Court in an endeavour to depict the Dominion as a whole and we think that the Poverty Bay district has received its full share of the display. “We would be most happy to show your personal representative over the court and feel sure that, with a full knowledge of facts, you would realise that what we have said is correct in every detail.”
