LOSSES IN WAR

FOUR THOUSAND MEN 1900 ALLIES AT SEA (Reed. Nov.'22, 2.20 p.m.) CANBERRA, Nov. 22. The assistant Minister of Supply, Senator H. B. Collett, stated in the Senate that it was estimated that the total losses of both sides in the war on the Western Front did not exceed 4000 men.

About 1900 Allied lives had been lost at sea, including losses suffered in the sinking of H.M.S. Courageous and H.M.S. Royal Oak. ■The sinking of submarines had been responsible, it was estimated, for the "loss of about 500 German lives. There had been 52 British casualties in air engagements.
