LOCAL OPERATIONS

WAR ON WESTERN FRONT NAZI PATROLS ACTIVE HEAVY RAIN REPORTED (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Nov. 18, 2.5 p.m.) LONDON, Nov. 17.

The Times’ Paris correspondent says that heavy rain reduced military activity on the Western Front to a minimum, though German patrols were slightly more active. In one or two instances, the opposing patrols used hand grenades.

French artillery dispersed small German detachments east of the Moselle and sent German troops who were constructing strong points between the Saar and the Blies scuttling for shelter.

A night communique states that there was local activity with contact between units and artillery.
