JAPANESE WHALERS

FLEET FOR ANTARCTICA

PERTH, Nov. 9.

The Japanese whaling fleet for the Antarctic this season will consist of six' factory ships, with 47 chasers, a large refrigerated vessel for 7000 tons of whale meat, and several store ships. Two chasers arc coming from Norway to replace the Japanese vessels which were lost in the ice last season. The expedition will have about 3500 men.

Reports from Japan state that prospects are more favourable than they were last season, when the Japanese had a reduced catch because of keen competition and bad weather.

The price of whale oil is expected to reach £2l a ton, compared with about £ls at the end of last season
